Vote for commissioners and propositions

Fire elections are Dec. 9

Several area fire departments are holding elections on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Below are the candidates and proposition information:

Bellport

David Sponton (incumbent) will be running for the only commissioner’s seat open. Election is from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be one proposition to increase the LOSAP service credit from 40 years to 50 years at no cost to the taxpayer.

Blue Point 

Incumbent Walter E. Dunn III is running unopposed. There is no proposition. Election is from 6 to 9 p.m.

Hagerman

Hagerman’s vote will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. There is one commissioner seat available, with only one petition: incumbent Ralph Letteri Sr., whose name will appear on the ballot.

There will also be a proposition for the sale of the old fire house located at 1309 Montauk Highway.

“Shall the Resolution of the Hagerman Fire District in the Town of Brookhaven, County of Suffolk, State of New York, adopted by the Board of Fire Commissioners on October 22, 2025 authorizing and empowering the sale of real property and improvements thereon more particularly described as 1309 Montauk Highway, East Patchogue, New York for its fair market value subject to market forces, be approved?”

Mastic

Michael Malone (incumbent) is running unopposed for a five-year term. There is no proposition. Election is from 5 to 9 p.m.

Medford

Kevin C. Hoffman is running unopposed for a five-year term to fill Joseph DeStefano Sr.’s vacated seat after 30 years of service. Election is from 3 to 9 p.m. There is no proposition.

North Patchogue

Ex-chief Mat Welsh will be running unopposed for the only open commissioner seat. There are no propositions.

Patchogue

Carter Biggs (former commissioner) will be running for the open seat left by Ryan Murphy, who recently resigned. There is no proposition and the election is from 6 to 9 p.m.
