Long Island braved another storm last weekend when a nor’easter plowed its way through the island. Lasting from late Friday, Sept. 25 to midday on Sunday, Sept. 27, the storm had affected a large portion of the island, especially Suffolk County.
Gov. Hochul had issued a state of emergency due to the expected amounts of rain and intense winds and flooding for Long Island and neighboring areas.
Gusts up to 60 miles per hour were another reason that many officials asked residents to stay off the roads, as the mix between wind, rain, and potential debris would be a dangerous combination. High tides brought coastal flooding into Islip neighborhoods, and lightning on Saturday night only worsened the storm’s conditions.
Islip neighborhoods had received one to two inches of rainfall by Sunday morning, and had experienced coastal flooding and debris from fallen trees that left roads and some power lines a mess. We asked Islip residents to submit photos of what the storm was like near them, and here are some of their photos.
