Posted

Sayville’s homecoming was held on Monday night at 6 p.m. for a Division IV matchup playing host to the Miller Place Panthers. The Golden Flashes pounded the Panthers using their homefield advantage in a 56-6 drubbing.

Timmy Holahan christened the scoring scampering 11 yards for a rushing touchdown. ensued by a successful PAT by Matthew Damone as Sayville capped their opening drive under three minutes into the bout.

The Panthers got on the board after a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and it was 7-6. Holahan darted into the end zone on a rushing touchdown from Sayville’s goal line and after another kick through the uprights by Damone, it was 14-6.

Rob Hoss picked off a Miller Place pass setting up Sayville with good field position and subsequently, Frankie Hanley waltzed into the end zone on a QB sneak and a two-possession game.

Sayville scored again after Holahan galloped down the field to cross the plane for another score. Prior to the end of the opening period, Ben Kloska made a tenacious sack to safekeep the dominance and emphasize the tidy defense as the Golden Flashes governed the first quarter leading 28-6 at the end of one period of play.

In the second, Hanley launched a 30-yard torpedo snagged by Colin Darling in the corner of the end zone and Damone notched a PAT to elevate Sayville’s lead to 35-6. Hanley pegged a shovel pass to Holahan and he dashed down the field to score his fourth touchdown of the game. Prior to the intermission, Cole Canterella made an interception and took it deep into Sayville territory; then Connor Batterberry rushed for a Sayville touchdown.

The scoreboard read Sayville 49, Miller Place 6 at halftime. That score was then upheld at the end of the third quarter and in the fourth, Connor Batterberry zoomed 10 yards for a half dozen, notching his second touchdown of the evening.

Sayville defeated the Panthers with a final score of 56-6 on homecoming and will trek to Mount Sinai tomorrow night (Oct. 2) for a 6 p.m. contest.
