In Sayville’s 2026 home opener, it was quite the onslaught in a 55-0 thrashing. The Harborfields Tornadoes traveled to Sayville for a Division IV matchup.
On the first play from scrimmage, Timmy Holahan scampered all the way to the end zone for a half dozen, ensued by a PAT by Matthew Damone. Following the opening score, Harborfields fumbled and Sayville scooped it up while Holahan subsequently ran 20 yards for another TD run. After another kick through the uprights by Damone, the scoreboard read Sayville 14, Harborfields, 0.
Colin Darling reeled in a 29-yard touchdown haul from Frankie Hanley, and later on Hanley threw a one-yard touchdown strike to Darling.
Sayville led 35-0 at the end of the first quarter, then 49-0 at halftime. In the second half, James Coan darted five yards for a rushing touchdown and Sayville completed a 55-0 shutout.
The Golden Flashes defense has shined brightly as they have not allowed a point in eight quarters this season.
Q and A with wide receiver/defensive back Colin Darling
SCN: Big difference from this week opposed to last week. How does it feel?
Darling: We definitely came out stronger with more grit. We planned this week much better than last week. Honestly, I think last week just awoke some of us on the team, but what a way to bounce back; we got all the guys in which is good.
SCN: How excited are you for your senior year, homecoming next week?
Darling: I’m psyched! I’m super excited! It’s gonna be a great time. All my friends, all my family. All these guys’ friends and family; it’s gonna be a great, great atmosphere.
SCN: Anything you want to improve on for next week?
Darling: Definitely want to look the ball in better. I had a drop or two today and not too proud of it, but you gotta look past it. You can’t ruminate on the past, so. But as a team, I think we looked great, and we’re coming out to Miller Place tomorrow and we’re gonna do our thing.
