Suffolk County district attorney Raymond A. Tierney recently announced that Daniel Escobar, 33, of Bay Shore, was indicted for attempted murder in the second degree and other related charges for stabbing a 65-year-old victim in the neck with a knife.
“This defendant is alleged to have brutally attacked the victim who, as a result of his injuries, remains in the hospital battling to recuperate,” said Tierney. “There is no excuse for such violence in Suffolk County. If you violently endanger the lives of others, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
According to the investigation and the indictment, on the night of Sept. 11, 2026, Escobar and the victim were in attendance at a meeting inside the First United Methodist Church in Amityville when the defendant allegedly stabbed the victim in the neck without provocation. The wounded victim immediately fled the Church and staggered to a nearby building where he was observed bleeding profusely.
Another meeting attendee rushed to the victim’s aid and applied pressure to the wound until law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel arrived.
The victim was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital, where he was intubated, sedated and placed on a ventilator. He subsequently underwent emergency surgery to control the bleeding. The victim remains hospitalized.
Approximately two hours after the stabbing, the defendant was arrested near his home. As alleged, he was found in possession of the murder weapon, a knife, in his waistband.
On Sept. 23, 2026, Escobar was arraigned before Supreme Court Justice John B. Collins on the indicted charges of:
Justice Collins ordered Escobar held on $150,000 cash, $1,500,000 bond or $1,500,000 partially secured bond during the pendency of the case. An order of protection was issued for the victim.
Escobar is due back in court on October 26, 2026, and faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted on the top count. He is being represented by Danielle Papa, Esq.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Syl-Don O’Gilvie of the Major Crime Bureau, with the assistance of Paralegal Emily Lonigro. The investigation was conducted by Detectives Matthew Savino and Michael Chimenti of the Suffolk County Police Department’s First Squad, with assistance from the members of the Amityville Village Police Department.
