A busy fall ahead in the Moriches

Posted

As summer winds down and we look forward to fall, I would like to take a moment to thank our Chamber Board of Directors for their continued dedication, hard work, and commitment to our organization and community. I would also like to thank our Chamber members, volunteers, local businesses and the entire community for their continued support and for helping make another wonderful summer in the Moriches possible.

The Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches is a volunteer organization, and so much of what we are able to accomplish is because of people who generously give their time and energy to our community. From our fairs, parades and concerts to scholarships, beautification projects and community events, our mission continues to be supporting our local businesses while helping make the Moriches a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

This year is particularly special as we celebrate the Chamber’s 100th anniversary—anchoring the Moriches for 100 years, 1926–2026. It is an incredible milestone and a reminder of the generations of local business owners, residents and volunteers who have helped build the community we enjoy today.

As we head into fall, please continue to shop local, dine local, and support local businesses whenever possible. Every dollar spent locally helps our neighbors, strengthens our downtowns and keeps our community thriving.

“A strong community is built by people who show up, lend a hand and support one another.”

— Jackie Osborne, President

September General Meeting

The Chamber’s September General Meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at La Buena Vida, 714 Montauk Highway in Moriches. Networking begins at 6 p.m., followed by the General Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Chamber members are encouraged to attend, meet fellow local business owners and hear about upcoming Chamber activities.

A Wonderful Summer of Music

The Chamber’s Summer Concert Series was a tremendous success, and we would like to thank everyone who helped make another season of free community concerts possible.

A special thank-you goes to Suffolk County Legis. Jim Mazzarella for his generous support, which helped tremendously with this year’s series, as well as the Center Moriches Public Library for its generous support.

We also thank the Center Moriches School District and the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Park Board for allowing us to use their facilities throughout the summer.

Many thanks to all of the talented bands who performed for our community: Second Chance, LIRX, Milagro, Soul Jam Revue, Chain Reaction, The Rustlers, Sitting Ducks, Souled Out and Dance Party Explosion.

And we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to summer! Our final concert will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Park. Bring a lawn chair and come out for one last evening of music—and dance like summer’s just starting!

Chamber Recognizes Local Students

The Chamber was proud to recognize six outstanding local students this past June through its annual scholarship and student award program.

This year’s recipients were Madison Farley, Center Moriches High School Business Student of the Year; Shannon Scott, OLQA eighth grade; Brian Caffery, Center Moriches fifth grade; Jaxson Wyllie, Center Moriches eighth grade; Karly Coonan, Center Moriches 12th grade; and Anthony Meadows, East Moriches eighth grade.

Congratulations to all of our recipients! The Chamber is proud to recognize the accomplishments of the young people in our community and wishes them continued success.

Keeping Main Street Beautiful

The Chamber would also like to recognize our Downtown Beautification Committee for the wonderful job they have done caring for the beautiful flowers throughout Main Street.

It takes continued attention throughout the season to keep the planters looking their best, and their dedication has certainly made a difference. We thank all of the volunteers who give their time to help keep our downtown welcoming and beautiful.

Before You Hit the Amazon Button...

There are so many wonderful shops, restaurants and businesses throughout East Moriches, Center Moriches and Moriches, offering everything from unique gifts and great food to professional and everyday services. You never know what hidden gem you might discover right here in your own community!

Before automatically hitting the Amazon button, take a moment to see if you can find what you need right here at home.

Shopping locally does more than support one business. It helps keep our downtowns vibrant, supports local jobs, and allows our small businesses to continue supporting the schools, organizations, fundraisers and community events that make the Moriches special.

Visit moricheschamber.org when looking for a local business, restaurant, shop or service, and remember to support the businesses that support our community.

Get Involved With Your Chamber

The Chamber is always looking for community members who would like to become involved. Remember, we are a volunteer organization, and the events and programs we bring to the community are made possible by people willing to lend a hand.

Whether you would like to help with an event, join a committee or simply volunteer from time to time, we would love to hear from you. Please contact Jackie Osborne at chambermoriches@gmail.com for more information.
