Sayville vs. Kings Park

Posted

The Sayville Golden Flashes hosted the Kings Park Kingsmen in the seventh game of the season at home on a Friday Night Lights contest on Greeley Avenue. One minute and 54 seconds, into the game Connor Batterberry shuffled 30 yards down the field for the opening score. After the extra point attempt was muffed by Sayville, Rob Hoss nabbed the ball and hustled into the end zone to convert a 2-point conversion and it was 8-0.

The flashes struck again in the first quarter when Frankie Hanley threw a 61-yard bomb over the middle to Colin Darling, who made the catch and galloped downfield and into the end zone for a half dozen, ensued by a PAT by Matthew Damone and it was 15-0. Up 15-6 in the second frame, Hanley pelted a pass to the end zone to Jake Arato, who made a sliding acrobatic catch to elevate Sayville’s lead. Afterwards, Rob Hoss dashed for another rushing 2-point conversion and it was 23-6 at the 5:35 mark of the second quarter. Gavin Moyer scored a rushing touchdown for Kings Park and it was 23-12. Batterberry scurried almost half the length of a football field for 49 yards to set up another score for the dynamic duo of Hanley and Darling. Hanley lobbed a 31-yard touchdown pass into the arms of Darling, subsequently followed by a Damone PAT and it was 30-12 with two minutes to go in the second quarter.

That score was upheld at halftime, then three more touchdowns came from Sayville in the third quarter: an 18-yard touchdown toss from Hanley to Hoss, a 75-yard touchdown run by Batterberry, and a 19-yard run for a score by James Coan. The final score was Sayville 50, Kings Park 12. Hanley was eight out of 14 for 208 passing yards and four touchdown passes. Batterberry had 198 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Darling made five receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
