The Bellport-based custom woodworking and home decor store, Simple Little Detail, is opening a new location in Sayville, with a focus on apparel and decorations for every season.
Simple Little Detail Off Main soft-launched two weeks ago at 22 Railroad Avenue in Sayville, giving both new and loyal customers a sneak-preview at the store’s new merchandise, and is fully opening this weekend.
Danielle DeMelfi, who owns Simple Little Detail Off Main with her husband Dan, said the new Sayville location will focus more on the store’s clothing and take-home decor offerings, while their current location in the Bellport Outlets will feature more of their custom wood furniture.
“We’ll keep our popular stuff in both stores, but we’re trying to keep this store different than the other,” Danielle DeMelfi said. “So you want to still shop at both of them.”
Some of those popular items include seasonal house decor, like bell ornaments, candy, and Amish crafts arriving later this month. At Simple Little Detail Off Main in Sayville, items already trending include holiday pillows reading “Santa Claus is Coming to…” followed by neighborhoods like Sayville, West Sayville, and Oakdale.
Fall-themed decorations like table-top turkey statues, pumpkin-shaped dishes, and mugs reading “Cozy sweater weather,” are also neatly curated on display tables throughout the store.
Apparel including Melie Bianco handbags and shirts from brands like Bluivy and SugarLips are also beginning to line the racks towards the back of the store, which has two dressing rooms. Another display room in the back is also being curated.
Opening a new location in a walkable downtown, where she can grab lunch next door and be present for community events, is a happy change for Danielle DeMelfi.
“I love the whole town,” Danielle DeMelfi said about opening in Sayville. “This has been my dream, because once I hit Sayville, I knew that I was where I wanted to be.”
DeMelfi then joked she’s already eyeing the next downtown to expand to. Local businesses are just as happy to welcome the new home decor store, as DeMelfi is to join them.
“The Greater Sayville Chamber is so excited to welcome Danielle and Simple Little Detail Off Main as one of our newest members on Railroad Avenue!” said Eileen Tyznar, administrator/president emeritus of the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce. “The craftsmanship, unique decor pieces, and friendly in-person shopping experience will surely be a great addition to the Downtown Sayville area.”
Simple Little Detail began purely as a craft business in Mastic after Danielle DeMelfi asked her husband Dan to build her a table.
“Then a couple of customers saw that and started asking us to refinish or add a bench or build an actual table, and that just kind of took off,” Danielle DeMelfi said.
Dan DeMelfi started refinishing kitchens and cabinets and the store moved to Brookhaven Hamlet, where they still operate workshops, and the Bellport Outlet Stores.
“As we went in, the clothes came in, the jewelry, the bags, the decor,” Danielle DeMelfi said. “It all started trickling in [at] different times because we wanted to be able to offer our customers everything, kind of like a one-stop shop.”
At Simple Little Detail Off Main, merchandise will always be rolling, with new items for each season. Keeping things different, while maintaining popular items, and delivering unique hand-crafted furniture has helped Simple Little Detail build a devoted customer base, with over 23,000 followers on Facebook, and 7,000 on Instagram. And the store is already making new fans, who perused the store during its soft-launch.
“The community’s been very excited and welcoming,” DeMelfi said.
Simple Little Detail Off Main will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 10:30am to 6pm, and Sundays tentatively from 11am to 5pm.
