Fifteen people arrested; seven vehicles impounded after street takeover

Suffolk County police have arrested 15 people and impounded seven vehicles after a street takeover in Medford.

Through intelligence gathering and social media monitoring, the Street Takeover Task Force, assisted by multiple Suffolk County police commands, learned that a street takeover was planned in Suffolk County on Friday night, Aug. 14, at an unknown location.

The Task Force successfully tracked the group through numerous locations, deterring them and preventing takeovers at locations at Commack Road and Sunrise Highway in Islip, and then Route 112 and Main Street in Patchogue, before intercepting them at Woodside Avenue and Sawgrass Drive in Medford at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15.

Numerous vehicles effectively closed down the roadway on Sawgrass Drive by driving recklessly, performing stunts in the roadway, and doing donuts and burnouts. Members of the Street Takeover Task Force responded and arrested 15 people and impounded seven vehicles. Additionally, multiple traffic tickets were issued for various infractions.

The following people were arrested and charged with Participation in Unlawful Speed Contest and Spectating Unlawful Speed Contest:

  • Frank Spingola, 21, of Deer Park, NY
  • Ahad Hotaki, 19, of Hicksville, NY
  • Marvin Chavez, 18, of Hicksville, NY
  • Djurabe Edmond, 18, of Westbury, NY
  • Joseph Wheeler, 23, of East Islip, NY
  • Marcello Martinez, 21, of North Babylon. Vehicle impounded
  • Johnathan Edouard, 22, of Roosevelt, NY. Vehicle impounded
  • Borys Lozanosanchez, 20, New York, NY. Vehicle impounded
  • Muzamil Hotaki, 20, Flushing, NY. Vehicle impounded
  • Alexander Lopes, 18, of Hicksville, NY. Vehicle impounded
  • Declan Tymon, 18, of Lynbrook, NY. Vehicle impounded
  • Jeremy Geevarghese, 22, of North Bellmore, NY. (charged with Participation in Unlawful Speed Contest only). Vehicle impounded

They are scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
