Isabella Rossellini, an internationally acclaimed actress, will host a series of films on Oct. 3 at the Plaza Media Arts Center to celebrate the 800th anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi, a spiritual leader famously known as a patron of animals and the environment.
The films were directed by her father, Roberto Rossellini. Considered a master of Italian neorealism, Roberto Rossellini never remained tied to one genre or style. He became more unconventional as his career advanced, and was constantly experimenting with new ideas and technical challenges.
A matinee at 1 p.m. features “Miracle” (a film that went to the U.S. Supreme Court) and “Flowers of St. Francis.”
At 7:30 p.m., the Plaza will screen “Europe 51,” starring Isabella Rossellini’s mother, Ingrid Bergman. Rossellini will discuss her father’s work and her recent completion of a feature film about the Poor Clares, to be released in 2027.
The event will introduce an annual “Faith in Film” series at the Plaza that will focus on core values common to all religions.
Tickets are $35 for the series; $15 for the matinee. More information is available on the Plaza website: www.plazamac.org.
The event is made possible with support from the New York State Council on the Arts and The County of Suffolk. n
