As donations decrease, pantry seeks help

Lighthouse Mission in need of food

Posted

This time of year, according to the Lighthouse Mission pastor Jim Ryan, food donations decrease while the number of people in need continues to rise.

The mission is in need of all types of food donations, but is specifically seeking fresh and frozen foods, including fruits and vegetables, dairy products, and meats and other protein items.

“These essential foods are rarely donated because of their cost, yet they are some of the most needed items,” he said.

According to the Lighthouse Mission, many individuals and families who attend the Lighthouse Mission’s food distributions experience protein and vitamin deficiencies because they lack regular access to fresh and nutritious foods.

“This can lead to weakness and serious health problems,” he said. “You can help by donating food to support those in need.”

Both store-bought and homegrown fresh produce is welcome. For those who have a garden that produces more vegetables than can be used, Ryan suggests that they consider donating the extra harvest to help provide healthy, vitamin-rich food to those in need.
