The fourth annual “All Boobs Matter” Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser was held at Jackson Hall American Bar and Grill in East Islip on Oct.1 under the direction of organizer and host chef, Michael Landesberg.
Over $80,000 was raised to benefit The Male Breast Cancer Global Alliance and the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition for Long Island. The restaurant was packed inside and out with supporters who had the opportunity to bid on lavish donated gift baskets filled with beautiful prizes and gift certificates from local businesses.
There were also lottery ticket prizes, vacations and an enormous 50/50. The dedicated Jackson Hall staff donated their time to the event.
Countless volunteers helped put the “fun” in fundraiser with fantastic food, cocktails and several thousand generous supporters who attended throughout the evening’s event. Ironically, on a sad note, following the event, chef Mike announced that one of his staff collapsed that night with a seizure only to find out later that she had breast cancer that had metastasized to her ovaries and brain.
The West Islip Cancer Coalition has set up an account for her to assist in offsetting her bills, expenses, and transportation to and from her doctors.
Chef Mike has been heard to say again and again, “I do my fundraiser to help raise money for people at the moment to help relieve stress and so they can concentrate on getting well rather than worrying about how to pay for the rent or put food on the table.” He expressed, “Little did we know, it would be my manager in need of help.”
