Ghouls and goblins took the stage at the Bay Shore United Methodist Church’s Ca”BOO”ret last weekend. From spooky classics to more modern anthems, the Halloween concert brought a variety of tunes.
Ticket donations were $20 to help support the church’s music ministry. Concertgoers could also support the concert through a raffle and 50/50 held throughout the night or by purchasing some fall mums.
Bay Shore residents came dressed in their favorite costume in the spirit of the holiday. Sunflowers, fairies, Frankenstein’s Monster and other monsters filled the pews.
Opening up the evening was Daniel Cafiero, who performed “Vesti La giubba” from “Pagliacci.” The song, which focuses on all sorts of clowns and costumes, helped set the lighthearted tone for the night.
Laughs were had thanks to newly appointed pastor Dr. Elon J. Sylvester’s number “I Whistle A Happy Tune” from “The King & I.” Rushing to the stage, he made sure to give the crowd an entertaining show with his performance.
Ellen Dumlao sang “Magic” from “Xanadu,” but had a trick up her sleeve. Performing live magic for the church, she made her scarf disappear. Noeline Gittens got the crowd clapping along to her tune “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder.
In honor of the witches who sang it first, Kailey Carr sang one of the final numbers in the show, “Defying Gravity” from “Wicked.” Hitting high notes that echoed across the church, the concert went out with a bang.
