Posted

It was another stellar season for the William Floyd High School girls varsity tennis team as they completed their regular season with a 7-0 win over Southold, clinching their third consecutive league championship in the process! The Colonials earned a No. 4 seed and a first-round playoff bye. They will host the winner of Hauppauge/Comsewogue on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m.

Under the leadership of head coach Dave Pia, the Colonials have now qualified for the playoffs for 21 consecutive seasons. They finished the 2023 regular season with an impressive 7-1 league record (12-4 overall) and were the only team to play 16 regular season matches. Over the previous three seasons combined, the Colonials own a 42-6 regular season record!

“We had a very good regular season,” said Coach Pia. “We played the most matches out of any team in Suffolk County, and had the toughest schedule.”

The Colonials are battle-tested heading into the playoffs as they faced the toughest non-league teams in Suffolk.

“I made it that way to help prepare us for the playoffs,” Pia added. “It all comes down to if the team plays up to their abilities and stays mentally tough and focused. We are one of the top teams. I am hoping we can play our best tennis throughout the tournament.”

Congratulations to the following student-athletes on a tremendous season and best of luck going forward into the playoffs: Adrianna Filippelli, Anabel Van Cott, Lydia Van Cott, Gianna Martin, Drew Wiegand, Olivia Phillips, Tatiana Sanchez, Nadia Da Gama Paes, Christina Dyakiv, Alexa LaValle, Khloe DiMaio, Corrine Neidig, Trinity Lyons and Madison Lockwood.
