Colonials go 2-0 at the start of the season

Posted

The William Floyd Colonials improved their record to 2-0 this season on Wednesday, Sept. 13, with a 31-21 victory over Ward Melville in Suffolk County Division I football.

While trailing the Patriots 7-0 late in the first half, star safety Caden Lesiewicz came up with a key interception to give the Colonials momentum. The offense responded with a game-tying touchdown late in the second quarter, as quarterback Jack Molini fired a 22-yard strike to wide receiver Geo Alvarez in the endzone.

On the first play of the third quarter, running back Jaden Montalvo blew past the Ward Melville defense for a 63-yard touchdown run. After the Patriots responded with a touchdown of their own, making the score 14-13, the Colonials ground game took over as they drove their way down the field late in the fourth, burning the clock and setting up Lesiewicz for a critical field goal to give William Floyd a 24-21 lead.

The do-it-all Lesiewicz wouldn’t stop there, as Ward Melville, trying to tie or take the lead, would be intercepted by the star safety, all but sealing the victory for William Floyd.

A 67-yard touchdown run by Montalvo gave William Floyd a 31-21 lead and clinched the victory. Montalvo finished the game with an impressive 193 rushing yards on 16 carries.

William Floyd’s next game will be at Sachem East on Friday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m
