On Thursday, the Brookhaven Town Council passed, without debate, supervisor Ed Romaine’s proposed 2024 operating and capital budgets.

The $335.5 million operating budget maintains services at current levels. It raises taxes by 1.36 percent, which is within the state’s 2 percent cap, and adds seven positions, bringing total town employment to 869. It also includes 3 percent raises for town officials, including supervisor and town board members.

The largest item in the $47.9 capital budget is  $47.9 million for streetlights, roads, and drainage improvements.
