Angels of Long Island’s thrift store is a popular destination for savvy bargain hunters looking for new and gently used designer apparel, linens, and home decor at heavily discounted prices.
Now, the Patchogue-based nonprofit, whose motto is “Neighbors helping Neighbors,” is preparing to open a second location, at 14 Herkimer Street in Mastic.
“Second-hand is really trending right now,” Angels of Long Island founder Debbie Loesch said.
Loesch, whose long-term goal is to open additional thrift stores across Long Island, hopes to open the Mastic location by June 15.
Shoppers will find the same quality items available in Patchogue and the same sales, including $2 Tuesdays, discounted men’s clothing on Mondays, discounted women’s apparel on Wednesdays, as well as half off on items $6 or more.
The new location will include a drive-through donation lane, where people can donate items without having to get out of their car.
People can also drop off empty soda and water bottles, which Angels of Long Island returns for a 5-cent deposit. Those empties have been an important source of funds for the organization over the years, Loesch said.
“Pennies make dollars,” she said.
Like Angels of Long Island’s Patchogue location, the facility in Mastic’s will also distribute food to the needy. Wendy Falanga-Smalls, founder of NANA’s House, will run the Mastic food pantry, Loesch said.
Proceeds from the thrift shop help fund Angels of Long Island’s work in helping those in crisis or who have fallen on hard times financially.
